Newbie value betting and laying the value bet theory

Hi guys,

Was wondering as a noobs to value betting, what settiings should I have on, what stake size? should it be 1% of bankroll? i can have a 5k bankroll if I am doing value instead of arbing

Also do you all just do flat single bets, or do you lay the bet also? Surely laying the bet also, if you can get a good match you will be saving lots of money, as not losing any money as its layed but taking the value. Does this work in theory? I cant see why it woulnt just a bit more hassle but much less risk
